She always won!!?? She was the one who always recited "T'was the Night Before Christmas" at our "trim the tree" day each Christmas. Got to know her lovely attentive family. We will all miss her, but the memories will continue forever!! Nurse Carol

I always loved Miss Bernie. When I would come to Northwood Manor she was the light of my time there. She was such a blessing and I know that her light still shines to those around her in heaven. She is singing with the angels just as she sang with those of us who came from North~East each month. Praying for each of you to have peace and remember all the wonderful memories because she left you a legacy.

Dear Kathy and family, My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I lost my wife (LaVae) to cancer in June, 2013. My memories of being with "Judge" range from the 1940s in grade school, 1950s in high school, 1950s with girls in the car, 1999 at the Wilmont centennial, to the 2000s with my visit at your home in Indiana. I have many fond memories of Judge and still have the wedding gift that Judge gave us in 1958: Betty Crocker's Cookbook. I hope to make it to my old friend's funeral on Tuesday.

We are saddened to hear that Don has left this life. We loved The Godfather and are grateful to Kathy and the extended family for letting us share wonderful times in Puerto Vallarta and here in Oregon. Don made us smile with his impish grin and his many, many jokes. Our lives are better for having known him and we will miss him terribly and remember him always. The beach will never be the same. Seeing Don with his family in PV it was clear that he was a wonderful and kind spirit and a well-loved man. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of his family and friends.

From: Ralph Shideler
Terry and William, Although I graduated with your mother, I grew to know her far better after we graduated. We grew to be close friends and she even gave my wife one of her beautiful jewlery creations. We met several times at the eye clinic, where I was fortunate to meet William. I met her grandson on several occasions and it was heartwarming to see the support that her family gave her. Shirley will always have a warm spot in our hearts, she may be gone, but certainly nor forgotten. Ralph Shideler Class of '53.

From: Jessie Shields
Bill & Terry, I have known your mother since she was a freshman in high school and sat right across from me in study hall at Van Buren High School. I was a senior and whenever she had a problem, she would ask for my help. She was a wonderful person and I don't think ever saw a stranger. She worked at MCS when I worked down there as our receptionist. She was great at meeting the public in that job. Over the years we have met at rummage sales and other places. I shall surely miss her. God Bless You!

From: Judi Dailey
Dear Terry & Bill, I worked with your mother at the unemployment office. She would talk about you both often. I know she loved her family very much. She was a wonderful lady and will be sadly missed. From: Melanie Rennaker
Scott, Tammy, and all the Elliott family, I was so sorry to read about your parents in the newspaper. Unfortunately, I didn't read the paper until late, so I apologize for being unable to attend the visitation. Your parents were such wonderful people, always enjoying the family, traveling and their joyous life together. It is only fitting the last journey they took would be together. I have no doubt God is very pleased with all the good work your parents did in the name of Jesus Christ. I know there aren't enough words to take away all the sorrow you are feeling today. But please take comfort in knowing that many, including myself, have all of you in our thoughts, in our prayers, and in our hearts. May God be with you during this difficult time and always. Sincerely, Melanie (Foland) Rennaker.

From: Sally Keith
Both Lois and Don were good friends of my husband, Bill, and me. Bill passed away May 14. Don and Lois attended Bill's funeral in North Webster. During the service Don called Bill a "gentleman and a gentle man." I shall never forget that, and could say the same for Don. Lois was such a sweet lady. My love and prayers go out to all three boys, their wives and children, of whom Don and Lois spoke often. I wish I could be there to offer grief hugs (I'm learning that they are so helpful) but am in Florida. Sally Keith.

From: Janet Cripe
Don and Lois were always very kind. I especially enjoyed talking with Lois at Red Hat meetings.

From: Frieda Weaver
I knew Don and Lois when they attended Lakeview Wesleyan Church; also saw them several times in Florida when we lived in Brooksville and they were at the Airstream park nearby. I don't know why Don's obituary isn't posted here but this message would be in memory of both of them. They were wonderful people, good friends, and great witnesses for the Lord. It's hard to believe I won't see them anymore here but there will come a time in heaven for a big reunion.

From: Jean (Rudy) Cowan
I have know Don as a fellow Kiwanian in Marion for years and my sister did Lois's hair in Marion. We discussed their friendships of our families through out the years. I am so sorry that this happened at this time of the year. I am certain they are in heaven together spending Christmas with Jesus. I will keep your families in my prayer.

From: Ron & Billee McVay

From: Donna Emerson
Sympathy to the family members who remained close & cared for Judy. I knew her as the best step mom & peanut butter oatmeal cookie baker - When I had extreme pregnancy nausea 45 years ago Judy’s cookie recipe was the healthiest I could find. My daughter is probably made of those ingredients since they were one of the only things that stayed down. When Judy described her stay in a nursing home in the 1990’s, my own mother was dying of cancer & she cried over what Judy had been through. Now both ladies are resting, & as John 11:24 shows “I know (they) will rise in the resurrection on the last day”. I have many happy memories of kindly things Judy did when I was growing up. I always though it special that my mom approved of & liked this step mom & vice versa. Judy will stay in all our memories.

From: D. Johnson
Please accept my condolences on the loss of your dear loved one. Take comfort in knowing that our heavenly Creator understands your pain. He will soon remove all pain, sorrow, and death forever! Michael LaVaughn Betts

April 18, 1947 – November 24, 2013

From: M.L. Hurt
Very sorry to read of the passing of your dear loved one Michael. Life is such precious gift and yet so short-lived for the time we exist. We are comforted by the hope of the resurrection. God holds out this wonderful hope for all those in the grave. At John11:25 Jesus said " I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE. HE THAT EXERCISES FAITH IN ME, EVEN THOUGH HE DIES, WILL COME TO LIFE." Mark 5:38-43 is one of the nine accounts of ones who were resurrected. How comforting to know these things from the Holy Scriptures. What a blessed reason to hope in God! ( John 5:28,29) The gift of your memories of Michael will bring you great joy and turn into a treasure. You and yours will receive strength through prayer to God, you will feel comfort by the loving concern of your God- fearing friends, and you will be uplifted by studying God's Word. Trust in " the God of All Comfort " Psalms 83-18 Agape M.L.Hurt.

Bob, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your father. Losing a parent is difficult and words never really say enough. I remember him fondly. I will be keeping you and yours in my thoughts. Take care, AiRe.

From: Matthew C. Ford
Bill always treated me like an adult even though I was still very young when I first met him. He opened his house to me and welcomed me at any hour of the day. I knew that no matter what else happened in my life or what I was going through he would always have a couch open for me to crash on. I remember a lot of pots of vegetable / ham soup cooked on his stove. I remember a lot of games that lasted from dusk-til-dawn, and days-on-end with out him ever asking any questions. I remember that if anyone ever needed anything he was right there to provide it. He didn't always have a lot, but he was willing to give it up if someone else needed it more. I have very fond memories of Bill, and even though I have not had a chance to speak with him in a long time I will miss him very much.

From: Kimberly Vetor
Where to begin? I have known Bill for the past 8 years now but only recently with in the last 5 years did I get the pleasure to know the man personally. Lawrence and I with my two children had been living with Bill for the past 5 years. He stepped in at a very difficult time in both of our lives. I remember when I first came here to his home I was a bit skittish around him. And he could tell that. He would tell me every day that this was my home and I was welcome to think of it that way. Soon he broke down those walls and I remember thinking to myself, "Is this guy for real?" Soon I came to understand that yes, he was very real..lol! He was such a good man in so many ways. Always respectable, funny, so very smart and clever, and most of all...he cared. He treated me and my children like we were part of his family, and he did become loved as a family member for me and my children. There are not many people in this world that have a genuinely good soul and a want to help others in need. He always reminded me of my grandfather and it was like loosing him all over again. Loosing him in this world cuts the lights down that much lower. He was someone I could talk to, from cars to the Spanish inquisition..lol, and he spoke the same with me because we knew when stress in life got a bit much, we had one another to talk it out with. I will miss that. Lawrence had that same access with him as I did. But he had Bill in his life much longer than I did. I am so very sorry for this loss, Bob. But I know if there is a heaven that Bill is there holding his young son, visiting with his parents, grand parents, and everyone else he loved. And one day we will visit with him as well. I will never have the words to express how much he is missed.

Later in my life, I joined the Marion Eagles Lodge in Indiana where your Mom & Dad were members and got to renew that gracious hospitality that only Esther possessed. I'm sure she will be missed by all her family. Revel in the knowledge that someday you will see her again.

During my 34 yr. marriage to Mike, I have had many special visits and phone calls to you. I treasure EACH and EVERY ONE! I'm glad I always had a camera ready to cherish these memories even though you ALWAYS complained about having your picture taken. I always admired your faith, love for your family, strength and tenacity among other qualities. Your artwork is all the more special to me now. I have even kept your cards! Your handwriting was so beautiful.Thank you, Grandma Mary, for hanging on long enough so I could talk to you on the phone while Mike held it up to your ear. I will always love you and miss you dearly. Thank you for the memories and being such an integral part of my life. Rest in peace, honey, and may God always be with you.
